HTC-Theater Arts Guild: A Theater Experience

The TAG members in their year book photo ops with adviser Ms. Marivi Lim, in a memorable gathering of seniors, juniors & applicants

Holy Trinity College Theater Arts Guild was founded by Danny Rojas, a nephew of Madam Gertrudes Albano, founder of HTC, to showcase a X'mas fund raising for the high school department. With the help of Ms. Iyog, they auditioned performers in 1994 to mount 'Woman of God' a religious play written by James Reuter SJ. Mr. Romy Narvaez, director of MSU Kabpapagariya Ensemble was invited to do the theater workshop where he tagged along Al-Nezzar Ali to assist the workshop in dance-theater. Danny invited Al to choreographed and assist in the directing of the production that was performed in December of 1994. The rest was history, as Mr. Ali was absorbed in the college to teach English and Humanities, thereby helping in the continuation of the TAG. By 1996, Danny resigned and the TAG was given to Ms. Marivie Lim as the adviser and Al took the position as full time artistic director until the year 2000 where he resigned to concentrate as instructor in the college. Marivi also ended her advisory and transferred to SPED. At this time most of its alumni members were enrolled in Notre Dame of Dadiangas University thereby evolving in that school another theater group-the Likas Teatro.

In this performance, the " Japanese Suite" performed in the 1996 Palaro Cultural Night made a name for the group and eventually established its presence in the theater group circles of the city

HTC-TAG became a favorite group to perform at the Parish Church, and the most memorable was the 'Pasyon' covered by the CNN coverage of Mindanao Holy Week

With the demise of TAG in the high school department, Mr. Ali continued the theater experience in the college by creating the Sining Kadayukan composed of Allan Remedios, Renante Garcia, Philip Chan, Jane Cadovido, Allan Pilapil, Joel

The group was invited for the centennial celebration given by the Ayala Group to mount the production 'Mindanao: Isang Kasaysayan'. Performers were a mixed from the college, highschool TAG and from Likas Teatro.
where after its major-senior members had graduated, the group slowly came to its end but a major production was mounted sponsored by the College faculty club in 1998 entitled 'Ang Paglalakbay' starred by Anne Rivas, Allan Remedios and Renante Garcia-the musical director.

The group performed in various school activities including the Gawad Trinitarian award program. The group ended after its senior members had graduated and no more auditions were conducted by 2002.
It is to be acknowledge that both theater groups had contributed to the cultural scene and development as well as exposure of the school. HTC became a member and recognized cultural contributor via TAG in the city of General Santos for 6 years. It also was responsible in the molding and discovering prominent artists and cultural workers from the group. Allan Remedios is to become the Extension Officer of HTC and is still active in the school cultural functions; Renante Garcia is still composing music and songs and lately was the main vocalist of a rock band based in Kiamba, Sarangani province where they performed as front acts to the Arnel Pineda' s concert directed by Mr. Ali, his former director in college in 2009 at the KCC Convention Center. Donnie Arc Busgano is now a professional teacher in one of the schools in Manila where he is the artistic director of their programs and school activities. The other members and their whereabouts are to be posted soon.
